San Salvador de Jujuy or simply Jujuy, ( also called “la Tacita de Plata”) in the far southeast, is the provincial capital.






Founded in 1593,at 1260m above sea level, it is 90km north of Salta.

General Belgrano ordered the Jujuy Exodus on August 23, 1812 (the city’s entire population was evacuated and Jujuy was razed to the ground to prevent its capture).

The Quebrada de Humahuaca is a 95-mile-long (155-km) mountain valley and ravine in the Jujuy province of northwestern Argentina. The Quebrada de Humahuaca was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003.


Purmamarca : one of the most picturesque villages in the Humahuaca Ravine. Its name means “the lion’s village” in the Quechua tongue. Aymara language words purma (desert) and marca (city). 65 km from Provincial capital San Salvador de Jujuy and 22 km from Tilcara.It is located at the Quebrada de Purmamarca,

The hill of the seven colors (Cerro de los 7 colores). It bears such a name due to the various pigments aquired by the minerals that make up its walls. This hill is part of the eastern mountain range and is located right West of the population nucleus of Purmamarca. It is best seen from the main road we took after having left Route 9 in our way to the surroundings of the hill. impressive and incredibly beautiful, truly a marvel of nature.

The drive is about 3 hours between Salta and Humahuaca.

-Purmamarca – meaning “Town of the Virgin Land” is a charming town, but Plaza 9 de Julio has a large variety of local vendors and products. Plaza 9 de Julio, in the middle of the village.(compare prices and products), it is the biggest collection of artesenia and souvenirs.
